JORDAN TREASURES

Detailed itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive Aman

Upon arrival at Amman’s Queen Alia airport, our representative will be waiting for you before the immigration office holding a sign with your names and will help you in the visa procedures, obtain the free visa, stamp passport, collect luggage then coordinate with the driver to meet you outside the arrival hall. The rest of your day is at leisure.

Day 2: Jerash and Ajloun (B)

Your day starts with a drive to the Roman city of Jerash, about an hour journey, visiting Maximus Cardo, the main colonnaded street which is flanked by temples, churches, theaters & endless mosaics. This ancient city boasts unbroken chain of human occupation dating back more than 6500 years. The city’s golden age came under Roman rule and the site is generally acknowledged to be one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Only 20 minutes’ drive away, you will visit Ajlun Castle which is an awe-inspiring Islamic fortress that withstood the power of the Crusader armies in the 12th Century. Climbing the narrow staircases and walking through endless hallways takes you back to a time of chivalry and faith, where you can almost imagine the sounds of battling iron and the sight of the raging battlefield.

Day 3: Amman (B)

Today is a free day in Amman, to explore the capital at leisure. Amman is situated in a hilly area between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley and the contrasts between old and new is unique. The commercial heart of the city, has ultra-modern buildings, hotels, restaurants, art galleries and boutiques which rub shoulders comfortably with traditional coffee shops and artisan’s workshops. There is evidence of the city’s much older past everywhere you turn.

Day 4: Madaba, Nebo and Petra (B)

Starting the day with breakfast at hotel, you will need to be checked out by 9am for your pick up by your driver. You will start your touring with a drive to visit Mount Nebo which is about a 45 minute drive from Amman; the mountaintop memorial where Moses was buried and the most revered holy site in Jordan. When atop this mountain, you will be able to see, the vast panorama that encompasses the Jordan River Valley, the Dead Sea, Jericho and Jerusalem, often referred to as the Holyland. A small Byzantine church was built there by early Christians, and six tombs have been hollowed out of the rock beneath the mosaic-covered floor. A short 15 minute drive onwards takes you to Madaba, which is known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics and dubbed the city of Mosaics.

Madaba is home to the famous 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. With two million pieces of vividly colored local stone, it depicts hills and valleys, villages and towns as far as the Nile Delta. The church was built in 1896 AD, over the remains of a much earlier 6th century Byzantine church. The mosaic panel enclosing the Map was originally around 15.6 X 6m, 94 square meters, only about a quarter of which is preserved. After your visit you proceed onto Petra which is approximately a 3.5 hours journey.

Day 5: Petra and Wadi Rum (B)

After breakfast at your hotel you will start your visit of Petra, which is without doubt Jordan’s most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction. It is a vast, unique city, carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabateans, an industrious Arab people who settled here more than 2000 years ago, turning it into an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome. Entrance to the city is through the Siq, a narrow gorge, over 1 kilometre in length, which is flanked on either side by soaring, 80 metre high cliffs.

The colors and formations of the rocks are dazzling and just walking through the Siq is an experience in itself. As you reach the end of the Siq you will catch your first glimpse of Al-Khazneh which is the Treasury. A massive façade, 30m wide and 43m high, carved out of the sheer, dusky pink, rock-face and dwarfing everything around it. It was carved in the early 1st century as the tomb of an important Nabatean king and represents the engineering genius of these ancient people. At the end of the tour, you will walk back to site entrance and continue with a drive to Wadi Rum that includes a Jeep tour in the desert, which is about a 2 hour drive from Petra. This excursion includes Lawrence Spring and Khazalee Mountain and the total duration is about 2hrs. Thereafter you continue onto Aqaba the city on the Red Sea, only an hour from Wadi Rum.

Day 6: Aqaba (B)

Today is a leisure day. Aqaba is greatly prized as Jordan’s window to the sea and its sandy beaches and coral reefs are the most pristine on the Red Sea. There is a variety of activities on offer from the hotel or just relax in the sun. The more active can take part in snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, sailing or glass bottom boats. (own account).

Day 7: Aqaba to Dead Sea (B)

After your breakfast and check out at the hotel, you will drive through the Scenic Zara Road to Dead Sea, which is about a 3 hour journey. On arrival you will check in and enjoy the hotel and surrounding facilities.

Day 8: Dead Sea (B)

After your breakfast today, your day is at your leisure to enjoy the Dead Sea surroundings. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on the face of the earth, this vast; stretch of water receives a number of incoming rivers, including the River Jordan. Once the waters reach the Dead Sea they are land-locked and have nowhere to go, so they evaporate, leaving behind a dense, rich, cocktail of salts and minerals that supply industry, agriculture and medicine with some of its finest products.

Day 9: Depart Dead Sea (B)

After breakfast at the hotel you will be transferred back to Amman airport for your onward flight.
